Why everyone should learn to juggle (yes, that means you)!
There are few skills that can benefit a person as much as juggling can. I've been juggling for over seven years, and I believe that everyone should at least know how to juggle three balls.
A study conducted by the International Juggling Association indicates that about one in five people can juggle three balls. But in the same study, over half of the non-juggling respondents wished they could juggle.
But if so many people want to juggle, how come only a few people can?Well, I've talked to lots of non-jugglers about learning to juggle. The typical responses (excuses) I hear are:
Juggling is too hard
I don't have time
I don't have a reason to learn
Those people are wrong. Normally, I let everyone have their own opinion. But when it comes to facts, opinions don't have a place. And the facts are:
Juggling isn't hard
You do have the time (yes, you do)
There are so many reasons to learn how to juggle
Now, I get it. I'm Blayk Puckett, a twenty-year old boy who throws balls around in his free time. What makes me so qualified to know about your abilities and time schedule? I've taught many people how to juggle, and twenty minutes before they nailed their first three ball flash, they were giving the same excuses.
"But Blayk, what about hand eye coordination!"
Nope, sorry. This is the worst excuse out there. Juggling is two parts: throwing a ball in the air and catching it. If a person can throw one ball in the air and catch it in their other hand, that person can juggle. And unless you're blind or lost one or more arms in a tragic accident, you can too (just in case you are missing one arm, juggling in one hand is still possible, but you do have a pretty good excuse...). So it's not hard at all. Anyone can do it. Really.
"But Blayk, I don't have time for your silly hobby. I'm a full time student with two jobs."
Me too, but it doesn't take much time to learn to juggle. I suggest that new jugglers spend twenty minutes practicing every day. It's not much time at all, but if you do it every day, you'll be juggling faster than you can say "wow Blayk you were totally right." Plus, what other things do you spend twenty minutes a day doing? I promise, juggling is much more fun and beneficial than scrolling through your Twitter feed for the third time or watching another episode of Black Mirror.
When most people think of reasons to juggle, they think "hey this will be fun once every three years when I'm around some people and three oranges." Or, if you're a thirteen-year-old Blayk Puckett, you may be thinking "hey this may help me pick up girls one day" (it doesn't). But, there are so many reasons to learn. Here are just a few:
Studies have shown that when a person learns to juggle, their brain literally grows
Juggling is a really fun and easy way to exercise (your body and mind)
It's a pretty cheap hobby (all you need is three balls or pieces of fruit)
If you do well enough, you can make money juggling
It's fun, and on the rare occasion you do get to show off, it's pretty impressive
Hopefully, by now, you want to learn how to juggle three balls. If you don't, why did you even read this far?
If you are ready to learn, get in touch with me. I'd be happy to provide a one-on-one lesson. If you don't want to talk to me, I understand; I can still teach you how, through video, at blaykpuckett.com/how. If you just want to avoid me altogether, search on YouTube; there are a thousand great tutorials.
No matter how you learn, you'll be glad you did. And I'd love to see your progress!
I hope there's a day when everyone who wants to know how to juggle, can! So stop reading, get to practicing!
